@Anatolian90 Secularism means that religion has no influence on state.

But then Turkey really isn't secular considering the fact that the AKP is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. All of the progress in the last 10 years has been because of slow grassroots movement towards Islamic values; including dealing with the Kurds in a more civil manner.

Example: if Turkey continues with capitalist interest based banking that lacks ethical oversight, Turkey will suffer economic consequences.

@ArmoWings about the death toll being 1.5 million Armenians dead.. this is just an exxagerated claim to dramatize the events nobody knows exactly how many people died but it sure wasn't 1.5 million on the Armenian side.

can't you see how pathetic Armenians became. you guys started a revolution, helped the Russians invade Turkey and then got your asses kicked out of Anatolia. now you guys are so butt-hurt that you made up lies to make yourselves look like the total victims and us the villains

@ArmoWings "well accepted genocide"?
no matter how much you try you can't force your bullshit down our throats. go look up Bernard Lewis, Justin McCarthy, Ron Paul has to say about this and you will realize they don't buy any of it..how come Armenians don't open their archives? how come you guys reject a joint historical commission offer by Turkey? If you guys are so right about history as you claim you wouldn't be hiding and lobbying behind other countries politicians & corrupt historians.

@Azamspazam91 of course it is. what are we supposed to be a state ran by sheikhs or mullahs now? and plus secularism isn't about getting into the EU we are secular because we see the problems in S. Arabia, Iran, Pakistan etc... and we don't want to end up being like that.without secularism we probably wouldn't have all the freedoms we have today.

@glennd7962 This has nothing to do with modern ideals. This has to do with Europe not wanting to accept the membership bid of a country that, if absorbed by the EU, could become a huge source of immigration to Europe. If Europe indeed wants to have no contact with Muslim countries because of their culture, why then did some of them - specially France, the greatest oppistor of Turkey's bid - invaded and colonize Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa?
